Thinking caps on

happy end - ashita tenki ni naare (mp3)

who the hell sampled this from happy end’s 1971 album ‘kazemachi roman’?

i’m sure it’s a circa 2000 jurassic 5/quannum/blackalicious/dj shadow type effort and possibly one of those short interlude-y album tracks that were all the rage back then. seriously, this has been doing my head in since i first heard this song at the beginning of last year and, since there are a couple of you who like nothing better than pulling us up on our poor, poor research, i thought i’d give you the opportunity to use your knowledge to non-smug ends, as well as finally allowing me to listen to this lovely little song in peace!

a newton faulkner album to the winner!

It was Jurassic 5 ‘Freedom’ of their Power In Numbers album. This original is pretty fuckin good as well….

I love you.

I THOUGHT it was the mighty J5 but I’ve only got the ‘J5′ album and ‘Quality Control’ so can only think I’ve heard ‘Freedom’ on a compilation or somert.

I’m sure a man of your obvious musical taste already has a copy of ‘Hand Built By Robots’ so I’ll donate your prize to a local community welfare group.

Surprisingly it isn’t credited in the sleeve notes but it sounds identical albeit slightly more modern and digital on the J5 track…

I don’t believe that I have got Hand Built By Robots, so please tell that local Community Welfare Group that they’ll have to make do with my spare Val Doonican “Sing Along With Val” album

Actually, that’s not it!

I’ve just had a listen and whilst it’s similar, the track I’m thinking of samples the beginning of the Happy End song EXACTLY.

Hmmm, the search continues…
