i was at home looking through some records the other night and found an album i forgot i had, by soul legend zz hill. i thought, “hmmm… i wonder if this is the one with..”
yep! the sample from madvillain’s “fancy clown”, taken from arguably one of the best hip-hop albums of the new millenium, madvillainy. madlib chops up hill’s soul ballad in such a great way, i thought i’d post up both tunes in case any of you hadn’t heard the orginal, which is great as it is!

I’ve been a long time lurker of this blog, so by way of saying thanks for the excellent selection of tunes you’ve posted, have this unreleased version of “Fancy Clown” that’s double the length of the album version. Plenty more ZZ Hill sampling goodness in this one…

rob, the zz hill shouldnt be too hard to find, was on a couple of zz hill collection lps i think.

I sat out on an extensive search for the sample used for Fancy Clown and I’ve stumbled upon what I’m sure will be one of my favorite blogs from now on.
