Ain’t no mountain of one high enough
mott the hoople - bastard (a mountain of one re-edit) (mp3)
i hear that you and your band have sold your guitars and bought turntables.
i hear that you and your band have sold your turntables and bought guitars.
one of losing my edge’s closing remarks, and something i’m quite sure will ring true forevermore - just as you start to think that “dance don’t do them guitars no more”, another resurgence begins and you realise you better get those 1210s on ebay again (well, maybe not that drastic eh?). alongside the justifiably-hyped and previously discussed map of africa, a mountain of one are the balearic institution’s current conduits of the six-stringed beast, having come to the forefront of the current cosmic revival after releasing a limited ep last summer. their second ep is expected to drop anytime soon (come on guys, it seems like we’ve been waiting forever), so in the meantime, we’ve been granted a bit of an exclusive on this nothing-short-of-outstanding re-edit of a mott the hoople number, which should be online for a week or so - don’t sleep!
and if you’re wondering, the flyer above (click to make it a lot more readable) is for a special event taking place in that there london on the 12th april, where a mountain of one will be playing a live set, with dj support blackstrobe’s ivan smagghe and nathan wilkins. it looks likely to be one hell of a night.

Marc added these pithy words on Dec 31 69 at 4:00 pmJude> Have you listened to the lyrics on the Map of Africa album? Cringeworthy.
Jude added these pithy words on Apr 04 07 at 8:37 pmgo to piccadillyrecords.com to sample some tracks off the much anticipated Map Of Africa full length. I love their opening statement about the record, exaggerated yes…but beautiul. It IS going to be a great release.
jeff hoodlum added these pithy words on Apr 05 07 at 11:33 amThis is an incredible edit, good work
Any ideas if this is seeing a vinyl releaseJeff
Jude added these pithy words on Apr 05 07 at 8:06 pmheh. you mean:
“___ ____ _____ (baby)! ____ ____ (baby)____ ____!! (Baby) ____ ____ !smirkworthy.
only !!! has worse lyrics.
Kev added these pithy words on Apr 06 07 at 7:16 amjeff - apparently there may be a vinyl release forthcoming, keep those fingers crossed!
jude - i used to work at piccadilly up until january, but before i left i was lucky enough to hear the album in full. it doesn’t dissapoint.
lyrically it is something of beauty(!) - the full version of ‘freaky ways’ has the opening refrain of “you know plastic people, can be fantastic people, and there is a pleasure, you measure up the treasure” or words to that effect … but we’re not going to be buying it for the lyrics now are we?!?
Jude added these pithy words on Apr 06 07 at 6:54 pmjust to belabor the lyrics issue even further… first off, Marc & Kev, you’re BOTH correct in your assertions.
However, (and apropos of nothing) I contend that the following lyrics are easily some of the worst every scrawled on paper, then to compound the matter, committed to tape for official release:
http://www.stlyrics.com/songs/f/foreigner1560/jukeboxhero72013.htmlI nearly shit my pants laughing the first time I ever concentrated on what was being said there. Such the convoluted tale…
Simon added these pithy words on Apr 07 07 at 1:18 amThis is Ian Hunter, not Mott The Hoople..close but no see gar
Kev added these pithy words on Apr 07 07 at 1:42 pmjude - yep, they’re some pretty shocking lyrics, but what do you expect from the people who brought you “more than a feeling”?
simon - i’ve only tagged it as mountain of one asked me to, but it’s quite possible they’ve made it a red herring to put people of the scent of the original - i’d be quite interested to know what the source track is …
Simon added these pithy words on Apr 08 07 at 8:13 amIts from the Mick Ronson produced Ian Hunter album from 79, You’re Never Alone With A Schizophrenic (with John Cale on keyboards)..very highly regarded at the time
Marc added these pithy words on Apr 09 07 at 3:12 pm“In a town without a name, in a heavy downpour
Thought he passed his own shadow, by the backstage door
Like a trip through the past, to that day in the rain”Hahahahahhahahahahahaha. Better than Spinal Tap.
You know whatever we say about the lyrics on the album, I know and you know that I’ll buy it anyway. My excuse is that it’s going to be worth trillions in a few years time and i’ll need to leave my kids something seeing as I would’ve spent all my money on records by then. DAMN YOU BLACK CRACK!!!! At least I don’t suffer in silence.
jonathan added these pithy words on Aug 31 08 at 11:37 pmcan anyone re upped or send this is massive great tune! hook it up
