it’s been almost 2 years since sebastien tellier’s “beyond all strategies” 12″ fell so gracefully into our lives, and after a whole load of mostly pointless remixes, re-jigs and re-edits of the awe-inspiring and expletetive-defying “la ritournelle” (what exactly did mr dan do with that magic wand of his anyway?) we are finally presented with something new. well, new in the sense that this isn’t that same track repackaged again (this was previously found on his last lp “politics”) and is (very strangely) a call to arms for starship troopers’ rico to come and save us all. on a chance meeting with sebastien late last year i asked how the new album was sounding, and he simply replied “people liked la ritournelle, so it’s a lot like that”. i can only hope that’s true. whilst “broadway” is’t as life-changing as the aformentioned masterpiece (a fact that will probably hold true with most records released this decade), this chicken lips nine minute dub takes the track in a completely new direction, echoing both their emperor machine and white light circus side projects. it’s out on 6th feb on lucky number.
